My work is focused on figurative painting, I make expressive family portraits through an active, emotional process. I make use of color-blocking, compositional play, and the spatial interaction of human figures.
The more freedom I have with the marks, the better the outcome.
By painting from photographic sources, my work presents a rendering of reality which is removed from objectivity through mark making. This approach allows me the freedom to create and determine an abstracted narrative around the interplay of the subject matter within the figure-ground relationship.
